Vårdnäs Stiftsgård – Brokind locks and castle – Vårdnäs Stiftsgård (1,5-3 hours-full day)

The Kinda kanal and the nearby lakes south of Linköping offer some of Sweden’s best waterways for paddling. A great place to start your kayak excursion here is at Vårdnäs Stiftsgård, beautifully situated on the southwest side of lake Stora Rängen, approximately 27 ks from Linköping city.

Lake Stora Rängen suits both more experienced kayakers with lots of open water but is also suitable for beginners. An easier stretch is heading through the narrow passage from lake Stora Rängen into lake Lilla Rängen. Continue southwards until you end up at Brokind locks where there also is a castle. One way, this trip takes about 1,5 hours so expect around 3 hours in total. You can easily make it a full day out kayaking by taking your time and stop at different places, have a picnic or take a swim.

Book through Vårdnäs Stiftsgård, more information is also available at Linköping Kajaks website.
