As part of the Sustainable Linköping project, Visit Linköping & Co has developed 17 Environmental Criteria with the aim of highlighting and recognizing businesses within Linköping’s tourism industry that operate in an environmentally sustainable manner.

The goal of the environmental criteria is to showcase role models/ambassadors within Linköping’s tourism industry who work sustainably and to highlight these to inspire other stakeholders to develop in the same direction, as well as to create opportunities to share knowledge and experiences.

The environmental criteria have been developed with GSTC’s criteria for sustainable tourism in mind and with inspiration from various certifications such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Green Key. The criteria are also linked to the 17 global sustainability goals in the 2030 Agenda and GSTC’s criteria to ensure that our environmental criteria contributes to achieving the global goals for sustainable development. Read more about GSTC here.

To become an environmentally responsible business, the company submits an application which is then assessed based on the number of criteria the business meets. Depending on this assessment, the business receives the designation environmentally responsible business (meeting at least 10 criteria) or Environmental Ambassador (meeting at least 14 criteria). Businesses with food service need to meet one additional criterion.

Our environmental criteria focus on:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Reducing water consumption
  • Promoting reuse and reducing waste
  • Supporting local and locally produced products
  • Sustainable travel
  • Reducing food waste
  • Promoting biodiversity
