Get around in Linköping
Linköping is investing in a green and attractive urban environment. With, among other things, safe pedestrian and bicycle paths and fast public transport, it is both easy and more environmentally friendly to get around. Access charging stations for electric cars and other useful transport information around Linköping here.
By public transport
It is convenient to get around in Linköping via buses and commuter trains with Östgötatrafiken’s public transport. At Linköping travel center on Järnvägsgatan, most buses as well as commuter and long-distance trains depart.
The easiest way to buy a ticket is via Östgötatrafiken’s app or to pay directly with your debit card onboard the bus. Tickets can also be obtained via sales agents like Pressbyråer, and in some places there are ticket machines. At Östgötatrafiken, there is good information about where else you can buy tickets.
On the Östgötatrafiken website, it is easy to search for your journey from stop to stop. From the travel center in Linköping, you can quickly and easily take the commuter train to the areas of Linghem (5 min), Mantorp (12 min), and Vikingstad (7 min).
Östgötatrafiken’s buses run on fossil-free fuels! The city buses in Linköping run on electricity or biogas and the rural buses are powered by HVO.
The two somewhat futuristic minibuses do not only take you from A to B but also, in a way, into the future. Here, a rolling research project is conducted with the aim of testing how self-driving buses can become part of the modern city’s sustainable mobility solutions.
The buses operate a 3.7-kilometer route around Campus Valla and Vallastaden and provide a unique way to get around while experiencing how public transport could look in the cities of the future.
It is free to ride the buses, but since this is done on a trial basis, they are not currently part of the regular public transport system. This means that the service may change depending on, for example, the weather.

By bike
It is not for nothing that Linköping has been highly ranked as a cycling city in recent years!
The distances are just right by bike; from Linköping’s heart Stora Torget, almost the entire urban area fits within a 4-kilometer radius! Major investments have been made to create safe bike lanes and plenty of bicycle parking. As the icing on the cake, Linköping Municipality provides free bicycle maps to show the way.

By boat
Linköping is Sweden’s municipality with the most locks, featuring both the Göta Canal and the Kinda Canal in the area. In addition to the canals, there are several lakes, of which Roxen is the largest. The Kinda Canal winds 8 miles south from Roxen towards the lakes Lilla- and Stora Rängen, Järnlunden, and further into the Kindabyggden area with Åsunden. The lush surroundings are incredibly scenic and welcome visitors both on land and on the water.
