The researcher, teacher, and author Sara Backman Prytz places all the bustling women’s historical research in its large context and depicts what it has meant to be a woman in Sweden over the past thousand years.
Welcome to a lecture with free entry at Östergötlands museum!
Of course, women have shaped Sweden just as much as men – only that their contributions have often not made it into the history books.
But if we turn it around and consider all the areas where women have worked – the monasteries, schools, associations, industries, salons, hospitals, farms, and offices, not to mention the homes – we realize that we have lived in the midst of a true Women’s Kingdom.
Sara Backman Prytz, researcher at Uppsala University, talks about her book Kvinnoriket – the history of women in Sweden over a thousand years.
The event is conducted in cooperation between Östergötlands museum and Forum for Gender Studies and Equality at Linköping University.
