When the great youthful love knocks, dare you to open?

When Dre and Des meet as sixteen-year-olds, anything is possible. The world is wide open, and the emotions are bombastic. They share dreams, intimacy, and the first great love. Many years later, they meet again. They are now thirty-two. Dre is a father living a family life, Des has become an artist. Everything has changed, and yet the bond between them remains.

In an interplay between then and now, between memory and reality, their shared history unfolds. What happens when the past collides with the present? Does their love belong to the past, or is it still here?

Shifters is a drama most of us can relate to. About how people and experiences affect us for a lifetime, and the eternal question: what if?

The play, written by acclaimed Benedict Lombe, was a hit at The Bush Theatre in London 2023. Lombe, the third black woman to be performed in the West End, is praised for elevating experiences and perspectives rarely seen on the big stages. Now it gets its Swedish premiere with Angelika Prick and John Njie as Des and Dre.
