Vernissage: Best in show

Information at the organizer

From Odysseus’ faithful Argos to Astrid Lindgren’s lumbering Båtsman, the dog has accompanied humans through stories, struggle, and love. Östergötlands museum’s new exhibition Best in Show depicts the dog as a companion, projection, and mirror for human experiences through art and literature.

Welcome to the opening!

Best in Show takes inspiration from the most powerful dog figures in art and literature and lets them wander into contemporary art. Here, beloved companion dogs, rowdy strays, and solitary existential companions come together.

With loans from, among others, the Nationalmuseum, Modern Museum, Magasin III, and Lars Lerin’s private art collection, themes such as closeness, power, projection, and identity are highlighted.

During the opening, the museum’s art director Ebba de Faire and museum director Olof Hermelin will speak. Learn more about the ideas behind the exhibition and be among the first to explore classic paintings, humorous photographs, contemporary video works, and not least, performance artist Kjartan Slettemark’s poodle costume.
