Vreta Kloster Brewery is Sweden’s only ‘monastery brewery,’ located a stone’s throw from the ruins of Sweden’s oldest monastery—Vreta Kloster (1101-1582).

At the monastery, the nuns brewed and drank beer. Since 2019, beer is once again brewed near the monastery, specifically Belgian-style beer of the highest international caliber. Several of the brewery’s beers have won medals in some of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.

In the brewery’s taproom, open during the summer and on select occasions throughout the rest of the year, you can enjoy Belgian food waffles, homemade bread made from the spent grains from their brewing process, along with their beer or non-alcoholic alternatives. They have a full permanent serving permit.

Throughout the year, they offer ongoing brewery tours with beer tastings where they share more about Belgian-style beer, the brewery, and the role of monasteries in the history of beer. Some days, their taproom is open for after-work gatherings, and occasionally, they host art exhibitions and live performances.

Welcome!
