Vreta Kloster Bryggeri – Sweden’s Only Monastic Brewery

Nestled just a stone’s throw from the ruins of Sweden’s oldest monastery, Vreta Kloster (1101–1582), Vreta Kloster Bryggeri is the country’s only monastic brewery. The nuns of the monastery once brewed and enjoyed beer here, and since 2019, the tradition has been revived with the production of world-class Belgian-style beer. Several of the brewery’s creations have won medals in some of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.

At the brewery’s taproom and restaurant, open five days a week in summer and on select dates throughout the year, you can indulge in Belgian-style waffles, house-baked bread made from brewing grains, and a selection of craft beers or non-alcoholic options. In summer 2025, the menu will expand to include pinsa.

Live music is hosted year-round, with exciting performances coming in summer 2025, including Staffan Hellstrand (June 28, 2025) and Marit Bergman, who will perform during the new music, culture, and beer festival Festum Vretensis (August 9, 2025).

Regular brewery tours and beer tastings are available, and starting June 1, 2025, visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase up to 3 liters of strong beer to take home after a tasting session.

Welcome to Vreta Kloster Bryggeri – where history, craftsmanship, and great beer come together!
