Vreta Kloster Brewery is Sweden’s only “monastery brewery”, located just a stone’s throw from the ruins of Sweden’s oldest monastery – Vreta Abbey (1101–1582).

Historically, the nuns at the abbey brewed and enjoyed beer on site. Since 2019, beer is once again being brewed next to the monastery – this time high-quality Belgian-style beers of international standard. Several of the brewery’s beers have won medals at some of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.

In the brewery’s taproom and restaurant, open five days a week during summer and a few times per month throughout the rest of the year, guests can enjoy Belgian-style savoury waffles, pinsa, and homemade bread baked with spent grain from the brewing process, paired with the brewery’s beers or non-alcoholic alternatives.

Live music events are held year-round. In summer 2026, artists such as Ola Aurell (24 June) and David Urwitz (27 June) will perform. On 8 August, the music, culture and beer festival Festum Vretensis takes place, featuring performances by Per Persson & Nya Packet, Hästpojken, Sanna Carlstedt and Linda Davidsson, among others.

The brewery regularly offers guided brewery tours, beer tastings, and on-site sales of strong beer.
