Visit websiteMuseum of the Year 2023! At Östergötlands Museum in Linköping, there’s always something exciting to discover among cultural treasures of various kinds.
The cultural history exhibition “The Road Here” is a journey from the present and back 11,000 years in time, with a focus on Östergötland and the Östgöta landscape. In the art exhibition “Realities,” the exploration is on how people portray themselves, others, and their surroundings in European art. It features portraits and landscape collages, a chronology of the self-portrait, photography in Östergötland, and Scandinavian artists from the Düsseldorf School. “Treasures of the Orient” showcases fantastic items from Egypt, China, Japan, and ancient Persia, while “The World of Will” is a playful experience environment for families with children.
Östergötlands Museum’s newly renovated functionalist building from 1939 also houses temporary exhibitions, a restaurant with a rooftop terrace, a museum shop, and a studio, as well as a wide range of program activities. The building also includes a regional art consultant, building conservators, archaeologists, conservators, archives, and a library.
Östergötlands Museum also includes Löfstad Castle outside Norrköping, Sancta Birgitta Convent Museum in Vadstena, and several museum farms throughout Östergötland, including Öna and Smedstorp’s double farm.
