With your own boat on Göta Canal 2026
Göta canal is open for boat traffic May 5 – September 27, 2026, but the location Berg’s locks is worth a visit all year round.
Ahoy! If you own a leisure boat, it’s almost a given that at some point in life you travel at your own pace along Göta Canal. Imagine bobbing along with the waves at a few knots and enjoying boat life in this harbor idyll, drop anchor and discover all the sights in the area!
To be able to travel with your own boat along Göta Canal, you need a so-called canal ticket. The price varies depending on the size of your boat, how far you are traveling, and what time of the season you are going.
Cruise ships on Göta Canal – Berg’s locks
Getting the chance to see the large cruise ships being locked up or down the large Carl Johan lock staircase is magical. Berg’s locks attract many spectators and if you’re lucky, you’ll see one of the classic canal boats Wilhelm Tham, Diana, or Juno locking themselves up or down Göta Canal.
A fantastic way to experience Göta Canal is from the water. Why not take a cruise on the beautiful Berg – Borensberg stretch? The one-way cruise takes about 3.5 hours. The return journey is made either by boat, bus, or bicycle. If you don’t have your own bike, you can rent one via Kaffeteriet in Borensberg and Berg.
M/S Wasa Lejon operates the stretch Berg’s locks – Borensberg – Berg’s locks (departs at 10:00 from Berg) during the summers. Read more and book here.
