Some say that the tapas tradition originated from the practice of covering the glass with a small plate on which a little ham and other small dishes were placed to prevent flies from getting into the wine.
Then there are those who believe that tapas come from Andalusia, where it is said that soldiers once were forced to put a lid on their glasses to prevent drinking too much.
