Welcome to Charles Emils!

Charles Emils serves everything from the week’s lunch to Viljans ice cream and delightful pastries. Here you can also enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee in a calm atmosphere characterized by art, culture, and local history.

Named after the doctor and author Charles Emil Hagdahl, Östergötland’s museum restaurant lets you not overlook history. Here, fine arts and period interiors blend with delicacies in the style of the influential cookbook author. Charles Emil Hagdahl wrote The Art of Cooking as Science and Art, a cookbook that had a significant influence on many Swedish homes during the late 1800s. He bequeathed his entire art collection to the city of Linköping, thereby laying part of the foundation for the museum and its collections.

Charles Emils functions as an important part of the museum, where program and restaurant activities are combined for delightful total experiences. This cross-fertilization also creates opportunities for booking events of various kinds, such as conferences or after work with creativity. The restaurant has full rights.

During the summer months, the museum’s rooftop terrace is open with a bar filled with refreshing drinks, pastries, good coffee, lighter dishes, and Italian ice cream. Here you can truly enjoy delicacies, calm, and the best view in town.
