The acclaimed duo Ale Möller and Lena Willemark are coming to the Östergötland Museum with a new album and a handpicked band featuring some of the country’s most exciting musicians from the older and younger generations of folk and jazz musicians.

Ale and Lena found each other as playing companions in the mid-80s, in their shared love for traditional folk music. Since then, they have played together in countless contexts where they have created music based on – but not limited by – the Swedish folk music tradition (Frifot, Jul i Folkton, Enteli, among others).

Both together and individually, they have received prestigious prizes and awards for their constant renewal of Nordic folk music, including the government’s export prize, the Stockholm city honorary award, and the Folk Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award.

Their renowned Nordan project began over 30 years ago, when the iconic album “Nordan” was released at the initiative of the record label ECM. The album was a great success with over 60,000 copies sold, was awarded a Grammis, and was followed by several sold-out tours that introduced the Swedish song treasure to an international audience.

The new album “Nordankväden” (also Grammis-nominated) is both an extension and a renewal of the same theme. This time, the work has been done in collaboration with producer Hampus Norén (Sara Parkman, Shida Shahabi, Teodor Wolgers, Sofia HK, among others) and the record label collective Supertraditional, who, like Ale and Lena, have established themselves as innovators in their experimentation with what folk music is and can be.
