Linköpings Castle- and Cathedral museum

Adjacent to Linköping Cathedral, this captivating medieval museum brings to life the intriguing history of Linköping’s city, castle, and cathedral development!

Spanning from the 12th century to the Renaissance, visitors can explore the cathedral’s unique treasures and the hidden Bishop’s Tower dating back to the 13th century.

Housed within Linköping Castle, the museum offers a digital journey through 900 years of history, starting from the mid-1100s. Step into Bishop Bengt’s Tower, erected in 1286, which stands intact within the castle’s walls to this day. Originally a bishop’s stronghold, it was transformed by Gustav Vasa into a royal castle and later served as a governor’s residence in the late 1700s.

On the second floor’s treasure chamber, a selection of the cathedral’s remarkable silverware and exquisite textiles is displayed, some dating back to the 1300s and 1400s, crafted by the Birgittine sisters of Vadstena.

The museum also offers a unique setting for private groups of up to 70 individuals, hosting weddings, lectures, and children’s parties. Guided tours through the castle’s medieval gardens are also available.
