Östergötlands museum

The Museum of Östergötland – 2023’s museum of the year! At the Östergötland Museum in Linköping, there’s always something exciting to discover among a variety of cultural treasures.

The cultural-historical exhibition ‘The Journey Here’ takes you on a voyage from the present day back 11,000 years in time, focusing on Östergötland and its landscape. The art exhibition ‘Realities’ explores how people portray themselves, others, and their surroundings in European art. It showcases portrait and landscape collages, a chronology of self-portraiture, photography in Östergötland, and Scandinavian artists from the Düsseldorf School. ‘Eastern Treasures’ exhibits fascinating objects from Egypt, China, Japan, and ancient Persia, while ‘Realm of Will’ is a playful experiential environment for families with children.

The Östergötland Museum’s newly renovated functionalist building from 1939 also hosts temporary exhibitions, a restaurant with a rooftop terrace, a museum shop, studio, and a wide range of program activities. Within the building are county art consultants, building conservators, archaeologists, conservators, archives, and libraries.

The Östergötland Museum includes Löfstad Castle outside Norrköping, the Sancta Birgitta Monastery Museum in Vadstena, and several museum farms across Östergötland, including Öna and Smedstorp’s double farm.
