Stjärnorp Castle Ruin
Just north of Bergs locks stands the ruin of Stjärnorp Castle
Visit websiteJust north of Berg’s locks with a breathtakingly beautiful lake view, stands the ruin of Stjärnorp Castle. The castle was built in the 1650s, in the then Vreta Monastery parish, by Count and Field Marshal Robert Douglas.
The castle was designed by the famous architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, also the architect for Drottningholm Palace.
A severe fire destroyed the castle and the adjacent buildings in 1789. Today you can visit the ruin from the park side. For tours inside the ruin and the tower see www.slottstornet.se.
Stjärnorp Church is housed in the south wing and is an active parish church.
The area annually attracts many visitors who, in addition to viewing the ruin, hike in the lush Stjärnorp Gorge. The gorge feels almost tropical with its ferns and winding brook.
