Vårdnäs Church

Beautifully located about three miles south of Linköping lies Vårdnäs church. The church was built in 1796 when the old church was considered too small. Today, the church can accommodate 600 people and underwent its latest renovation in 2001-2002.

The large church room then received a very warm and welcoming color scheme.

The altarpiece was painted by Pehr Hörberg in 1802 and depicts the Transfiguration of Jesus (Matthew 17:1-13). In the church,
there are several items worth seeing, including a sturdy church chest from the 1600s where the church’s money and valuables were stored. Four keys, held by four different
people, were required to open the chest. A reminder to us that through the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we have been given four keys to the church’s true treasure: The unconditional gospel.
