Gamla Linköping – travel 100 years back in time

Gamla Linköping is one of Östergötland’s largest attractions and one of Sweden’s most visited museums, with nearly 500,000 visitors each year. Here you can take a journey back in time a hundred years or more and experience living history in the city, countryside, and forest.

In the city’s neighborhoods, there are a hundred wooden houses that have been moved from other parts of Linköping. They are surrounded by cobblestone alleys, backyards, and beautiful historical gardens, where you can sit down and enjoy a moment of peace and quiet, far from the hectic everyday life. In the houses in the city and at Valla farm, the rural part of the museum, you will find about 25 different museum environments and exhibitions that tell about how people worked, lived, and existed in the past.

But everything is not “just” history here – there are also small cozy shops, cafés, and restaurants, theater stages, and a dance floor. For children and their families, there is also a lot of other fun, such as LasseMajas Deckarhus, animals, mini-golf, sledding hills, Linköping’s largest playground Lill-Valla, and several other play areas. In the Vallaskogens nature reserve, you can wander freely and find your own favorite spot, greet the animals, look for ancient monuments, or follow one of the trails where you learn more about nature.

Summer in Gamla Linköping

During the summer, Gamla Linköping is filled with more life through the program Tidernas sommar. Here, history comes alive and every day offers a wide range of activities for both children and adults who want to take a trip back in time and experience history up close.

The whole family can enjoy a variety of activities and experiences daily. For example, you can help with baking and laundry, learn to make a rope, write with slate and ink in the folk school, get wanderer tips in wanderer school, or take a ride on the puff-puff train. Actors and museum hosts bring streets, squares, and museum environments to life and offer tours and dramatizations. In addition to the Tidernas sommar program, other events such as concerts, dance at the dance floor, and revues, as well as popular family theaters at Folkparksteatern, are also offered.
