A full day in Old Linköping
Tough tough-train and mini golf
Are you ready for an action-packed day with the family in Gamla Linköping?
Grab the hemp and learn to make rope
What is a time travel back to the 1900s without having to roll up your sleeves a bit? Today, the whole family will learn a truly old craft – namely, how to make rope. Rope has always been a very important product in several industries; including agriculture and shipping. For millennia, the manufacturing has more or less been done the same way. In a short while, the whole family will master the art of making rope! Yes, even the children. It was indeed common for children to work in rope-making factories back in the days.
“Indulge in waffles just like before
The waffle has long existed in Sweden, and just like today, it was very popular in the 1900s. During this period, waffles with jam and cream were sold in small cottages called waffle huts. This is how you will have your lunch today. At Skönfärgaregården Shop & Waffle Hut, a wide range of waffles is served – classic crispy, savory, and Belgian chocolate waffles. On a warm summer day, you can sit down at the outdoor seating area located in one of the many gardens that dominate the area. Should the rain pour down, you can sit inside the historic setting that dates all the way back to the 18th century.

Chug along to Valla gård
In the early 1900s, electric railways also became common in Sweden. So now you make your way to Valla gård like in the good old days’ (kind of) – with an electric chug-chug train. The ride also has an audio guide that tells you about the places you pass during the journey. So not only do you get to rest your full stomachs – but also a quick tour through the area. You can purchase tickets onboard the train.

Explore Valla Farm
After spending the morning in the city quarters, today’s time travel has now taken you out to the countryside – Valla Farm. There you can, among other things, see farm life in Östra Torp. You can also get to know the small animals at Valla Farm with the help of videos on your mobile or take a break for play at Lill-Valla, Linköping’s largest playground. Here you will find a play bank where you can borrow games and play equipment for free. Or why not attend a vagabond school and get some good vagabond tips and your own vagabond name?

Compete at Östergötland’s largest mini-golf course
The last activity of the day takes place at Östergötland’s largest mini-golf course: Valla mini-golf. Here, there are two courses with 18 holes each. No one wants to lose this match. The loser treats the rest of the group to ice cream!

A quick visit to Italy
Round off the day with a quick visit to Valla farm’s own Italy: GelatoHouse. How did the mini-golf match end up now? Because you remember… The loser treats to ice cream!

Sleep sweetly at Linköping’s newest hostel
After a full day in Gamla Linköping, you are probably tired and full of impressions! It’s nice that your accommodation for the night is located in Gamla Linköping, or more precisely in the part called Valla. The hostel recently reopened and offers affordable accommodations in three- or four-bed rooms.
