Motherly love

In a musical theater performance based on Strindberg’s text Mother Love, actors Frida Hallgren and Blossom Tainton meet in a confrontation with abrupt shifts between pain points and drastic humor in a story about the legendary motherhood.

A mother and her adult daughter are at a summer retreat in an archipelago fjord on a hot summer’s day. What is intended to be a peaceful summer stay turns into a confrontation with many layers when the past comes to the surface. The intense and complex bond between the women is challenged in a painful confrontation about dependence, vulnerability, and the longing for a real meeting, a fellowship without masks.

The mythical concept of motherly love as the basis for the human race’s survival is examined in Strindberg’s relationship drama in a revised version where past and present are blurred, and where mother Amelie and daughter Heléné’s roles as mother and daughter are occasionally intertwined in a hot and personal confrontation.
