A Time Capsule for Östergötland’s History Ljungsbro Museum, located in the charming town of Ljungsbro in Östergötland, is much more than just an ordinary museum. It’s a time capsule that takes visitors on a journey through centuries of the region’s history.

Ljungsbro Museum, a cultural treasure offering visitors a deep dive into the past and an opportunity to understand how this region has evolved over time. The museum has become a vital hub for preserving and showcasing the cultural heritage that defines Östergötland.

Here, you can see and read about several typical life stories from the 1650s to the 1920s in Ljung, Vreta Kloster, and Stjärnorp and its surroundings. Ljungs Museum is here for those who want to learn more about Ljungsbro, Cloetta, the Göta Canal, industrialism, mills, emigration, Walloons, executioners, and other intriguing aspects. We also offer historical books, a shop, and an outdoor café.

Ljungsbro Museum was founded with a simple purpose: to preserve and share Östergötland’s rich cultural heritage. The museum’s origins date back to the early 20th century when enthusiastic locals began collecting and preserving items that told the area’s history. These items ranged from old tools and equipment to photographs and documents. The focus lies on Ljung and Ljungsbro, but also Vreta Kloster, Stjärnorp, Kristberg, Godegård, Tjällmo, Hällestad, and attention is given to Regna and Vånga.

Open Monday to Friday 10 am – 6 pm, Saturday 10 am – 3 pm, and Sundays 10 am – 3 pm in June, July, August, and December.
