Vreta kloster bryggeri is Sweden’s only “monastery brewery” and is located a stone’s throw from the ruins of Sweden’s oldest monastery – Vreta kloster (1101-1582).
At the monastery, the nuns brewed and drank beer. Since 2019, beer is once again being brewed near the monastery, specifically beer in Belgian style of the highest international class. Several of the brewery’s beers have won medals in some of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
In the brewery’s taproom and restaurant, which is open five days a week during the summer and a few times a month the rest of the year, you can enjoy Belgian waffles, pinsa, homemade bread made from the malt from beer production, together with the brewery’s beer or non-alcoholic alternatives.
Live performances are organized year-round. In the summer of 2026, artists such as Ola Aurell (24/6) and David Urwitz (27/6) will perform. On August 8, the music, culture, and beer festival Festum Vretensis will be organized, featuring Per Persson & Nya Packet, Hästpojken, Sanna Carlstedt, and Linda Davidsson.
Regular brewery tours and beer tastings are organized, along with farm sales of strong beer.
