The forecast predicts a warm Swedish summer. And what does summer not include? Yes, a refreshing dip in the blue. In Linköping municipality, there are several nice bathing spots with sandy beaches and grassy areas to camp at.

Not only have we compiled a map of the public bathing spots within the municipality. But we start with five great bathing spots that we like a little extra. For what would a summer be without swimming?

Linköping's large bathing map -ViggebysandViggebysand

Gaze out over the islands of Järnlunden, let the sun’s rays dry you on the already warmed swimming rocks while you enjoy the archipelago feeling that surrounds Viggebysand. The bathing spot is located in the heart of Viggeby nature reserve just west of Brokind and no hot summer day goes by without the sunrocks being filled with swimming-hungry Linköping residents.

The bathing spot has a sandy beach, piers, rocks and is wheelchair accessible with a ramp into the lake. It is also accessible with a pram. Viggeby offers swimming for everyone – a bit further into the forest, the family’s best friend, the dog, can also take a dip at the designated dog swimming area.

The beach is also close to toilets, parking, and is very well suited for families with children. There is also the possibility to grill at the barbecue area. It’s also good to know that Viggeby is known for its nude beach.

How to get here:
1. Take bus line 39 (towards Kisa via Rimforsa) from Linköping travel center and get off at the Brokind Gård stop.
2. Then a walk of about 2 km through the Viggeby nature reserve awaits to reach the bathing spot.

Linköping's large bathing map SandviksbadetSandviksbadet

If you cross Lake Roxen right over (from Linköping) you will reach Sandviksbadet. A nice sandy beach with a large open grassy area that invites many activities. Kubb, football, frisbee – only the imagination sets the limits for what game it will be this day! While you relax on the beach, you can gaze out over the lake and spot the guide to Linköping’s city center, better known as Linköping’s Cathedral, which is clearly visible in the city silhouette.

The bathing spot is adjacent to a large campsite and here you have proximity to both a small store and a kiosk. There’s also the possibility to grill and proximity to toilets. To get here, take Stjärnorpsvägen from Berg and continue for about 2.5 kilometers. The water is shallow, which also makes the water temperature quickly pleasant.

How to get here:
1. The easiest way to get to Sandviksbadet is by car. However, you can order Östgötatrafiken’s proximity traffic, which is a service for residents and visitors to areas that do not have regular line traffic. It can be ordered to and from any addresses more than two kilometers from the nearest bus stop.

Linköping large bathing map - HimnabadetHimnabadet

Swimming in a lake is not to everyone’s taste, but it’s just as fantastic to take a dip in an outdoor pool. Just a stone’s throw away from Linköping you’ll find Himnabadet, located in Linghem. Here you have all the amenities you need for a day at the pool without having to think about packing anything other than swimwear and sunscreen.

There are three different outdoor pools for families with children and swimmers, large green areas for play and running, free parking for visitors. There’s also a kiosk offering simple lunches, snacks, drinks, ice cream, and candy. During a day in the sun, it’s also important to take breaks in the shade. Here you also have the opportunity to borrow books for a reading session under the parasol for the very youngest. From 2023, there is also a newly manufactured mini-golf course with 18 holes. An entrance fee is charged at Himnabadet.

How to get here:
1. Take the Östgötapendeln from Linköping travel center to Linghem station.
2. Then walk for about 10 minutes to Himnabadet.

Linköping's large bathing map - JohannelundsbadetJohannelundsbadet

Johannelundsbadet is one of Linköping’s most popular bathing spots. Here, Linköping residents flock on warm summer days to get a refreshing dip in Stångån. Before last year’s bathing season, the bathing spot also received a major upgrade. A refurbished bathing beach with a swimming lagoon, ladders, and piers.

A day at Johanneslundsbadet also brings some comforts. There is a kiosk, playground, toilet, outdoor shower, and bathing steps, well suited for the elderly and wheelchair users. You are surrounded by open green areas that invite picnics and sunbathing. For the more active, there are also two beach volleyball courts to challenge the family or friends. Besides the kiosk offering light snacks, there is also an ICA supermarket, McDonald’s, and a gas station within a distance of 500 meters. If you’re in the mood for grilling, there’s also the opportunity for that at Johannelundsbadet.

The bathing spot is the most centrally located in Linköping. Excellent distance for a bike ride with good surface and there are plenty of bus connections that stop right next to the bathing spot.

How to get here:
1. Take bus line 11 (towards upper Johannelund) or line 13 (towards lower Johannelund) from Linköping travel center and get off at the Johannelunds center stop.
2. Walk down Skogslyckegatan and cross Brokindsleden to reach the bathing spot.
Estimated travel time: about 15-20 min.

Linköping's large bathing map - LjungsbadetLjungsbadet

Ljungsbadet is located in a soothing environment only 5 minutes from Ljungsbro. The bath is located in Ljungssjön, which is part of Motala ström and has clear and clean water that has flowed down from Vättern and Boren. The bath is small but idyllic and offers a dock, dry toilet, barbecue area, and changing building.

Psst… Just a short walk away is the famous ghost castle Ljung’s Castle, which has been featured in “The Unknown” and had the medium Terry Evans visit. The castle is from the 18th century and is a Gustavian gem and a fersenslott. If you need a break from all the swimming, it might be exciting to take a walk here and check out the ghost castle!

How to get here:
1. Take bus line 520 (towards Motala via Borensberg) from Linköping travel center and get off at the Ljungs västra bro stop.
2. Then cross the Göta canal and continue walking for about 2 km. Along the way, you will pass Ljung’s Castle!

Linköping's large bathing map - TinnisTinnis

Right in the center of Linköping, you’ll find the outdoor pool Tinnis, right next to the newly built swimming hall Tinnerbäcksbadet. There is a 50-meter pool according to international competition standard that is perfect for training and swimming. New for the summer of 2025 is also the children’s pool with both a children’s pool, water slide, and water play!

On land, there is also much to do! After swimming some laps, you can switch from water to grass and relax on the green areas around, play in the playground or play beach volleyball, boule, bandy, giant chess – and of course, equipment is available for rent on site.

If you just want to swim in the outdoor pool, pay the entrance fee at Tinnis (Torkelbergsgatan). To be able to swim both indoors in the new swimming hall and at Tinnis, pay the entrance fee via the new swimming hall (Folkungaplan 1). A walkway will be constructed to get between the outdoor pool and the new swimming hall.

How to get here:
1. Take any of Östgötatrafiken’s buses that take you to the Tinnerbäcksbadet stop. From there, you easily find the entrance a short walk away.
