Outdoor swimming at Tinnis in Linköping
In the middle of the city, you will find the outdoor pool Tinnis and the new Tinnerbäcksbadet. Here, there is a 50-meter pool for exercise and a completely new children’s pool with water play. On land, there are large green areas, volleyball, and a playground. Choose between entrance directly to the outdoor pool (Torkelbergsgatan) or combined entrance via the swimming hall.

Look out over the islands of Järnlunden, let the sun’s rays dry you on the already warmed bathing cliffs while you enjoy the archipelago feeling that surrounds Viggebysand. The bathing area is located in the heart of the Viggeby nature reserve just west of Brokind, and not a warm summer’s day passes without the sunlit cliffs being filled with swim-hungry residents of Linköping.
The bathing area has a sandy beach, piers, cliffs, and is wheelchair-friendly with a ramp into the lake. Additionally, it is accessible with a stroller. Viggeby offers swimming for everyone – a little further into the forest, the family’s best friend, the dog, can also take a dip at the designated dog beach.
The beach is also close to a toilet, parking, and is very well-suited for families with children. There is also the opportunity to grill at the barbecue area. It is also good to know that Viggeby is known for its nude beach.
Take the bus to the bathing area
– Take bus line 39 (towards Kisa via Rimforsa) from Linköping’s travel center and get off at the Brokind Gård stop.
– Then a walk of about 2 kilometers through the Viggeby nature reserve awaits to reach the bathing area.
– Estimated travel time: About 1 hour.

If you cross Lake Roxen right over (starting from Linköping), you will arrive at Sandviksbadet. A nice sandy beach with a large open grassy area that invites many activities. Kubb, football, frisbee – only your imagination sets the limits for what play it will be this day! While you relax on the beach, you can gaze out over the lake and spot the signpost to Linköping’s city center, better known as Linköping Cathedral, which is prominently visible in the city skyline.
The swimming area is adjacent to a large campsite, and there is proximity to both a mini-market and a kiosk. Additionally, there are opportunities to barbeque and there is proximity to restrooms. To get here, take Stjärnorpsvägen from Berg and continue for about 2.5 kilometers. The bathing area is shallow, which also makes the water temperature quickly comfortable.
Getting to the swimming area
– The easiest way to get to Sandvik’s swimming spot is by car. However, you can order Östgötatrafiken’s demand-responsive transport, which is a service for residents and visitors to areas that do not have regular bus service. It can be ordered to and from all addresses that are more than two kilometers from the nearest bus stop.

Swimming in a lake may not be to everyone’s taste, but taking a dip in an outdoor pool is just as fantastic. Just a stone’s throw from Linköping, you will find Himnabadet, located in Linghem. Here you will find all the amenities you need for a day at the pool without having to think about packing anything other than swimwear and sunscreen.
Here you will find three different outdoor pools for families with children and lap swimmers, large green areas for playing and running, free parking for visitors. In addition, there is a kiosk offering simple lunches, snacks, drinks, ice cream, and candy. During a day in the sun, it is also important to take breaks in the shade. There is also the possibility to borrow books for reading time under the parasol for the very little ones. From 2023, there’s also a newly made mini-golf course with 18 holes. An entrance fee is charged at Himnabadet.
Getting to the swimming area
– Take the Östgötapendeln from Linköping’s travel center to Linghem station.
– Then walk about 10 minutes to Himnabadet.

Johannelundsbadet is one of Linköping’s most popular bathing spots. Here, residents of Linköping flock on warm summer days for a refreshing dip in Stångån. Furthermore, before last year’s swimming season, the bathing site received a significant upgrade. An upgraded bathing beach with a bathing lagoon, ladders, and piers.
A day at Johanneslundsbadet also brings with it some conveniences. Here you will find both a kiosk, playground, toilet, outdoor shower, and a bathing staircase, well suited for the elderly and wheelchair users. You are surrounded by open green spaces that invite picnics and sunbathing. For the more active, there are also two beach volleyball courts to challenge the family or group of friends. In addition to the kiosk offering light snacks, there is also an ICA supermarket, McDonald’s, and a gas station within a distance of 500 meters. If you’re keen on barbecuing yourself, you also have the opportunity at Johannelundsbadet.
The bathing site is the most centrally located in Linköping. Excellent distance for a bike ride with good terrain, and there are plenty of bus connections that stop right next to the bathing site.
Take the bus to the bathing site
– Take bus line 11 (towards upper Johannelund) or line 13 (towards lower Johannelund) from Linköping’s travel center and get off at the Johannelunds centrum stop.
– Walk down Skogslyckegatan and pass Brokindsleden to reach the bathing site.

Ljungbadet is located in a tranquil environment only 5 minutes from Ljungsbro. The bath is situated in Ljungssjön, which is part of Motala ström and has clear and clean water that has flowed down from Vättern and Boren. The bath is small but idyllic and offers a jetty, dry toilet, barbecue area, and changing building.
Psst… Just a short walk away is the renowned ghost castle Ljungs slott, which has been featured in “Det okända” and had the medium Terry Evans visit. The castle dates back to the 1700s and is a Gustavian gem and a Fersen castle. If you need a break from all the swimming, it could be exciting to take a walk over here and check out the ghost castle!
Take the bus to the bathing area 🚌
– Take bus line 520 (towards Motala via Borensberg) from Linköping travel center and get off at the Ljungs västra bro stop.
– Then cross the Göta canal and continue walking for about 2 km. Along the way, you will pass Ljungs slott!
