A full day in Old Linköping
Lill-Valla, ice cream and puppet theater
Get ready for a fun-filled day in Gamla Linköping in the spirit of play and learning.

Fun for young and old in Lill-Valla
Hope you are well-rested because you start the day with a real kick-off. You head to Lill-Valla, Linköping’s largest playground, where you can have fun among the three play areas. Here you can climb, jump, slide, and dig as much as you want. If you want to take it a little easier for a while, take the opportunity to spend time with the chickens and rabbits that live by the playground. Right next door, goats and horses graze, and you will see birds playing in the pond. At Lill-Valla, there is also a game bank, where you can borrow games and play equipment for free.
Discover Vallaskogen’s animals and nature
After lunch, continue on the active course. Along Skogsstigen in Vallaskogen Nature Reserve, gain fun knowledge about animals and nature through your mobile, and the path is also adapted for people with disabilities. Do you dare to crawl into the badger’s sett, ride on a wild boar, or is it more fun to get to know different animals’ droppings?
If you’re feeling a bit extra brave, take the opportunity to go on the Find Vilsestigen, where you learn what to do if you get lost in the woods.
Hop hop
Now you’re worth resting your legs a little! In the past, when there were no cars and buses, one had to transport in other, slightly slower, ways. Here you can try riding a horse and carriage, and we promise it will be a truly fun and memorable experience. This activity has a small fee that you pay at Gamla Linköping’s visitor center on Tunnbindaregatan 8. Meet at Kapellplan and hop up in the carriage.

Ice cream in large quantities
The clock has definitely struck ice cream time! At the picturesque Dahlbergs café, you can visit the ice cream pavilion located in the garden. Enjoy the heavenly ice cream to the scent of blooming greenery in one of Gamla Linköping’s charming gardens. Which will be your favorite? If you’re more in the mood for classic fika, you can have it in the garden or in the glass-enclosed veranda at Dahlbergs café.

Gamla Linköping is an environment full of knowledge and learning about how life looked over a hundred years ago. Something that most children like is trying out how it was to attend school in the past. In Folkskolan, there are three different schoolrooms where you can test sitting in an old-fashioned school desk or writing on a slate board.
Now that you have been inspired by education, take a stroll by Ankungens children’s bookstore and toy shop. There you’ll find everything from classic fairy tale books to educational toys and cuddly animals.
Don’t miss going to the Huitfeldska Garden to see a real puppet theater! The little ones will love the puppet theater which is performed every day during the summer. There, you will meet both the Emperor of Persiennien, the tailor Tuffs, and Lurifax in the classic tale of the Emperor’s New Clothes.
