Tips for a Greener Visit to Linköping
Is it possible to vacation more sustainably? Of course it is! By planning your trip in advance and making some simple choices, you can visit Linköping without having a significant impact on the environment. Here are some tips for a slightly greener visit to Linköping!
Extra green accommodations
Many of Linköping’s attractions, both large and small, are working to adapt to an increasingly environmentally sustainable operation. Here we have selected a few attractions that have invested extra in environmentally smart solutions.
At Naturlogi you stay with the forest as your nearest neighbor. Here, no more guests stay than the forest can handle, and the cabins are largely built from timber from trees that were felled due to bark beetle infestations, which would have needed to be taken down anyway. Here you can order picnic baskets to cook over an open fire with ingredients that are sustainably produced and often organic.
Vårdnäs Stiftsgård has invested in a large number of solar panels on the rooftops to switch to energy supply that is better for our planet. There is also a strong focus on local and locally grown food served in the restaurant.
At Kullagården you can experience staying on an organic farm.
In Go Glamping Sweden’s tents, you can stay comfortably at one of Sweden’s perhaps most beautiful places by Berg’s locks. Here, lighting, refrigerators, and lawn mowers are largely powered by solar cells, the decking is made of recycled materials, some of the furniture is second-hand, and the cups and cutlery are made of paper or wood.

Nature experiences in Linköping
If anything is green, it’s nature! Linköping, known for its vast expanses in the Östgötalätten and oak landscapes, has a lot to offer.
Tinnerö Oak Landscape is northern Europe’s largest oak landscape and is within walking distance from the city center. Many residents of Linköping enjoy daily walks, bike rides, horse rides, bird watching, and other excursions here. Choose between winding paths or accessible gravel roads and enjoy the peace and the rolling grazing landscape and stately oaks.
Östgötaleden is the core of the hiking trails in the municipality and stretches throughout the municipality, but there are many more trails and loops to choose from. Click here for more hiking tips!
It’s often quite easy to walk, bike, or take a bus to wonderful nature. Easily search for bus options at Östgötatrafiken.

Canal-close experiences
In Linköping, we have not just one but actually two canals.
World-famous Göta canal with the summer paradise Bergs Locks is a popular destination. Here is a good starting point for a day trip along the canal to Borensberg and back. Bicycles can be rented on site from Kaffeteriet. You can easily take a bus here from Linköping’s Travel Center or bike on a path through the Östgöta plains. In the same area, there is Väster om stan which consists of several destinations offering organic locally produced goods, flea market finds, and preserved museum objects. However, to reach most of them, you need a bike or car.

Kinda canal, which runs through central Linköping, is a rising star offering varied nature and consists of both canal and lakes with beautiful “inland archipelago.” In and by both canals, there’s a lot to explore when it comes to kayaking, hiking, and cycling. Experiencing the locks, from boat or land, is an experience in itself! The locks are hand-operated and preserved for over 150 years.
