Travel sustainably to and in Linköping
Transport is more or less a prerequisite for travel and at the same time one of the biggest threats to the climate, but it is indeed possible to travel while being environmentally friendly! Here we have therefore listed some tips on how to get to and around Linköping in a more sustainable way.
Travel by train
The obvious alternative to driving when traveling around Sweden is the train. It is not only kind to the environment but also comfortable and gives you time to read, drink coffee with your travel companion, work, or why not just look out the window and enjoy Sweden’s landscape. To Linköping, it is also excellent to take the train thanks to Linköping’s location along the mainline between Stockholm and Malmö.
Linköping’s Central Station is located within a 5-minute walking distance from the heart of Linköping’s inner city, and from the central station, there is then a direct connection to buses to continue your journey.

Travel by bus
Östgötatrafiken operates Linköping’s streets both within the city center and in the countryside, and all buses run on fossil-free fuels. The city buses in Linköping run on electricity or biogas, and the rural buses are powered by HVO, which is also a fossil-free fuel.
Östgötatrafiken also has the Östgötapendeln, which are trains running between several locations in Östergötland. The Östgötapendeln is powered by electricity from renewable sources such as hydropower and wind power and is close to zero in terms of climate-impacting emissions.

On foot
Perhaps the very best for both the environment and your own health is to get around on foot. In Linköping, you can reach many of Linköping’s most popular attractions with a pleasant walk.
From Linköping Travel Center, it is, for example, a 5-minute walk to Linköping Concert & Congress, Östergötland Museum, and Östgötateatern, 15 minutes to the Cathedral, and 10 minutes to the bustling Stora Torget with restaurants and cozy shopping streets. If you are heading to a sports event or concert at one of Linköping’s arenas, it is a 5-minute walk to Saab Arena and 20 minutes to Linköping Arena. To Gamla Linköping, it is a bit longer walk, but for those who have comfortable shoes and enjoy fresh air, you can still get there in about 40 minutes.
