Popsicle and Atomic Swing defined the Swedish 90s sound and style. Now they meet again on stage as two bands with completely different expressions, but with the same undeniable status in Swedish music history.

Atomic Swing quickly established themselves as one of the country’s most distinctive groups through their sophisticated mix of melodic rock and playful pop with a deeply rooted retro feel. With Niclas Frisk at the forefront, they managed the feat of combining the 60s pop aesthetic with the 70s glossy glam rock. This resulted in a uniqueness that still feels immediate, and hits like “Stone Me Into The Groove” and “Smile” made Sweden suddenly sound international, bold, and spacey all at once.

Popsicle, on the other hand, is often described as the foremost architects behind the Swedish indie-pop phenomenon. By combining British influences with a soundscape drenched in distorted guitars, they created a sound that felt both international and entirely their own. They gave Swedish indie an unbeatable melancholy, and more than 20 years later, songs like “Hey Princess” and “Sunkissed” still constitute the benchmark against which new, promising indie acts are measured.

These are two catalogs that more than hold their own and two bands that left permanent marks on an entire generation.
