Salon with Anna Maria Lenngren: The Portraits at Ljung Castle

The year is 1796, and Count Axel von Fersen has invited the famous authoress to visit Ljung Castle.

A theater and music performance where Anna Maria Lenngren’s poem “The Portraits” is brought to life, accompanied by Ingemo Rylander on the harp. The event is organized in collaboration between the Association for the Preservation of Ljung Castle and the theater group Lincopensarna.

Anna Maria Lenngren received a thorough education at home from her father, who, among other things, taught her Latin. Her childhood home was poor, but several of the young literary talents of the time sought his cheerful home, not least to meet his talented daughter. Already at a young age, she published numerous epigrams and poems in, among others, ‘Hvad Nytt’ which she signed with A.M.M.

Towards the end of the 1770s, she said that she intended to retire and shortly thereafter ceased all public appearances as a poetess. However, she did not stop writing; on the contrary, she developed even more as a lyricist and satirist, the only difference being that she now published it anonymously. This performance showcases her skill with text and portrayal of interesting personalities.
