Bicycling is by far the best and most convenient way to get around Linköping. There are about 50 miles of bike paths, 10 miles of which are maintained during winter, so the conditions for a successful bike ride are really good! The city’s bike paths are flanked by nature experiences as they eventually lead out into the beautiful nature of the Östgöta plain, no matter which direction you choose.

Bike rental in Linköping
If you don’t have your own bike, you can rent one in Linköping. During the summer, there are bike rentals both in central Linköping and out at Bergs locks. During the rest of the year, some bike shops rent out a few bikes.

Biking tips: Östgötaslätten and Around Roxen
Östgötaslätten
A bike tour over Malmslätt – Vikingstad – Västerlösa – Ledberg – Berg is a perfect tour for those who want to cycle over the beautiful Östgötaslätten. Starting in Malmslätt, you can visit the Air Force Museum, a popular attraction in Linköping that is well worth a stop. Continuing over Vikingstad, Västerlösa, and Ledberg, you will experience Östgötaslätten at its best. In summer, the yellow rapeseed fields spread out, and here and there you will see a church tower protruding. With the thriving plains in focus and the modern city on the horizon, you travel along the roads. The wind? Yes, it’s always there, but luckily there’s also a tailwind.
Then finish the tour at Berg Locks and experience Göta Canal’s largest lock area, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Here are both cafes and restaurants to replenish some energy after the bike ride.
Around Roxen
For the more daring, there is always the option around Roxen. This means 9 miles of varied cycling. From Linköping north via Berg, then continue along the entire north side of Roxen. Very hilly and very beautiful. The south side of the lake offers more enjoyment of the plain, and here you can really pick up speed on the pedals on the way towards the city.
