But before you head out into nature, it can be good to know where to find maps, information about nature reserves or the right of public access. This and a little more can be found on this page!

Right of Public Access
Do you enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors? Then there are some simple regulations to follow. The Right of Public Access, which is unique to Sweden and a few other countries, gives us access to enjoy and explore the Swedish countryside. However, it includes both rights and responsibilities, and it is therefore important to start from the fundamental rule of the Right of Public Access: “do not disturb, do not destroy.” Enjoy hiking, cycling, camping, picking berries & mushrooms, kayaking, but remember that it’s important to respect nature, landowners, animals, the privacy zone, and people. There are certain environments such as nature reserves and private spaces to avoid, but there’s much more to enjoy.
Keep in mind!
Enjoy the Right of Public Access and the freedom to be outdoors, but don’t forget that you also bear a responsibility to ensure it is nice and pleasant when you leave the place you have been. Consider, among other things, that:
- Do not leave trash in nature, as animals, nature, and people can be harmed by your litter.
Do not disturb or harm animals. - Do not drive a car, motorcycle, or moped in nature; stick to roads, paths, and other places where you should drive your vehicle.
- Do not disturb the privacy zone by camping near private residential land or in places that can disturb nature.
- Do not cut down or damage living trees
With the right of public access, we have the opportunity to camp out in nature. It’s important to choose a spot carefully so as not to disturb animals or private landowners. When making a fire, it’s also important to choose a spot where there’s no risk of it spreading or damaging the ground. Do not make a fire directly on large boulders or rock slabs, they will crack. The very best when making a fire is to find a designated spot for it. During the summer period, when the risk of forest and ground fires increases, be aware that fire bans may be imposed in certain areas.
The right of public access applies both on land and on water, and just as on land, you who travel on water must respect the environment. Important to remember if you are going to be out on the water is to be aware of the rules and regulations that apply to the water you are traveling in. According to maritime law, you are allowed to go ashore, swim, and anchor by the shore as long as you do not enter private areas, and there are also special rules in national parks and nature reserves that must be observed. It may, among other things, be prohibited to be on the water within a certain distance in bird or seal protection areas.
The forest is filled with wonderful resources, and with the right of public access, you have the right to eat and pick as much as you like. However, it is important to keep track of which mushrooms and flowers you are not allowed to pick, as some are protected.
There are plenty of wonderful hiking trails and good options for those who want to explore nature by bike, but remember to adapt your hiking/cycling to the nature. You are not allowed to walk over private property, plantations, or land that can be damaged.
